Photo of the Month - Anson Bay, Norfolk Island

What is there to say about Norfolk Island to really capture the essence of this amazing place...  It's like no where in the world I've ever been before.  This relatively small island (5km by 8km) sits between Australia, New Zealand, and New Caledonia.  European discovery occurred on the 10th of October 1774 by Captain James Cook, and was soon established as a British prison.  Abandoned as a penal colony in 1855, Norfolk Island became the new home of the Pitcairn Islanders, descendants all of the Mutineers of the Bounty.  The only way to get around the island is to drive, and it is so easy.  The locals are incredibly friendly and it's almost impossible to get lots (for too long).  The scenery is stunning - especially the colour of the water!  This photo is of Anson Bay.  There is also a small beach where the bay meets the shore, which is very picturesque.  Check out my Norfolk Island Gallery link on the menu to the left!
